Martha Graham Dance Company, PHILADANCO! And Penn Live Arts

In 1938, the renowned dancer and choreographer, Martha Graham (a Pittsburgh native), choreographed “Our Own American Document”, addressing the meaning of the Declaration of Independence at a very fraught moment in the history of Western civilization. Since its founding in 1970, PHILADANCO! founder Joan Myers Brown, a recipient of the 2012 National Medal of the Arts, has guided the company to international acclaim in performing the work of seminal American choreographers. The Martha Graham Dance Company and PHILADANCO! will create a new collaborative piece based on “Our Own American Document”. This is the very first joint program for these two spectacular and world renowned dance companies.
